Over the past few seasons bookings have been flying in to use the clubs facilities for private functions, which is great for the club.

However i think its very bad form that on the last game of the season the first team and supporters arrive back to the club from Witney and are told to keep the noise down and stay in the small sponsers room because there is a private function.

This should not be happening! Naughty

On the + side, elvis was very good! Dance

With you on this one Turkish. I popped in for a pint at 9pm only to be told the bar was closed to players... managed to pull a few strings and sorted myself out but I felt it was a bit crazy. The previous week we were kicked out about 7.30 because of a night time function!!

Leave the club to the members on saturday nights that's what I say... I remember the days when the bar stayed open until the last person was ready to leave. If the bar manager had to go, then the keys were left with the most reponsible person... much more fun!!

Trying to raise money in this way is ludicrous...

I agree too. had the 2s actually got to play on saturday, i'm sure a fair few would liked to have stayed up the club to celebrate a W and finishing 2nd in the league. fair enough the club needs to raise money, but we all (well, apart from those on the wall of shame) pay to be members of this club and to be shoved into a tiny sponsors lounge and told to keep quiet is not on. if the club house is being hired out, this should not be allowed to happen on a Saturday when we have fixtures and most definately not on the last weekend of the season! apart from a small number who stop for a drink after training during the week, the club has 6 days of the week that it could be hired out.

Totally agree with everything said, I have probably been more outspoken on this issue than anyone else. However when I hear that a large propotion of the people complaining had not actually paid there membership fees for this season, I ask what case do I have. I have been assured by the Chairman that certain dates will be left free next season so circumstances like the last two weeks will not occur again.

Those who don't pay their subs don't have a leg to stand on in this argument. And those that have paid have a perfect right to make their point.
That said, I guess if more people paid their subs on time every season, then the club might not need to rent out the facilities on the last Saturday of the season to bring in more revenue.

Absolutely, those who have had not paid their membership have no right to a say in the running of the club. It is a difficult matter, and a tricky one to enforce, what with the number of part-time players etc. but this a problem for The Powers That Be to address; it seems personal responsibility may not be enough?

Booking out the clubhouse for the last game of the season, I am sure was not done as a direct attempt to recoup membership money not gathered this season, more an oversight in planning. I would hope for a little better scheduling next year.

The "Powers That Be" don't seem to regard non-payment of subs as an issue that needs dealing with - its been a problem for years.

here he goes again... who rattled your cage anyway Wink. The debate is about changing the club from a rugby club into some kind of party venue Wink . Membership is a different issue plus everyone that has commented here are fully paid up members.

Nose is good thanks Turkish... clothes stink of beer though Mad. Revenge will be sweet Big grin

Actually mate, it had developed into a debate about membership hence me sticking my oar in, for which I make no apology. You know me, any chance to say my piece!

No-one stays out past 7pm anyway these days !! Nice to see the clubhouse being used to its fullest for once. Would be a waste of all that fund raising efforts otherwise. The overwhelming majority can't wait to leave the club straight after the final whistle most Saturdays. We can't even fill the clubhouse on 6 Nations weekends or even worse on the night of the World Cup final. If you were all consistent in wanting to use your club you may have a case. I don't know what's happenning... next you'll be wanting to take WAGs on tour with you! Big grin

Chaps - surely it is all about balance.

The club would barely just survive if it was run just on subs and bar takings. However if the club wants to generate more money to develop the club on and off the field then they have to run events.

I am not saying that we should have an event every saturday, and i think some saturdays especially when the 1st XV are at home should be kept free.

The club covers a whole variety of 'rugby players' who have different needs, from 6 year old minis to 86 year old fart. Everyone wants something different and that's why it seems as if the club is pulling in different directions.

How they spend that money is a differnet issue you could spend it wisely on a fancy new new website Banging head against brick wall or invest it in the were it was really needed - but thats a different matter.

And before MarkW or Rob point out that I have no paid my subs.

It is an interesting debate but not one for the forum. If you feel so strongly about it you should raise it at the AGM. It is your Club and that is where you get your chance to say how it should be run.
