Chiltern pack put the squeeze on Wycombe deep in their twenty-two

Chiltern All Stars take on second in the league Wycombe and return victorious.

On a wet and windy day in Wycombe, Chiltern continued their impressive unbeaten run of games beating the second in table side 20 points to 5. Liam Gilhooly and Matt Lawson (Chips) made welcome returns after long periods of injury, both completing 40 minutes without problems, which is even more good news for the club.

A solid pack performed well throughout the match competing against a well drilled Wycombe eight, especially in scrums and open play, however the lineout needs some attention before next weeks' home match against Bletchley. The class of Chiltern backs, clearly shone throughout the game, as you would expect with a starting line-up, of Steve Fowler and Dougal Nicholls at half back, the pairing of Brian Richardson and Gez Rowland in the centre, with Liam Gilhooly on the right wing, Scott Jarrold on the left, and mercurial talent of Dave Richardson at 15, Wycombe never really stood a chance!

The scoring was opened by break by the centres' on the right hand side, and the pace of Liam Gilhooly snatching a loose ball to score, completed by a long distance conversion from Brain Richardson to make the score 0 - 7. Wycombe fought their way back into match by turning over an ambitious quick penalty from Liam Gilhooly in his own 22, bringing the score to 5 -7. A good first half was completed by the best move of the match with Chiltern securing good scrumage ball, passing along the line on the right, winning quick second phase, and bringing the ball back through some superb handling for Scott Jarrold to convert the overlap in left hand corner, half time score of 5 -12.

Wycombe put on a gutsy performance in second half, often to see their hard gained yards being negated by a long distance clearances from the Chiltern 10 or 15. As the game continued, Chiltern were awarded a penalty in front of the post and Dougal Nicholls made sure of the kick to take the score to a comfortable 5 -15. Late on, another good period of attacking play and safe hands resulted in Scott Jarrold securing his second try sliding in the corner, final score 5 -20.

The only negative note was a cut on head for Charlie Kent, bravely diving on a loose ball and catching a stray boot, unfortunately Charlie had to be taken by ambulance to the local hospital, but as we have come to expect from Charlie's contibution over the years for Chiltern, he was more concerned about getting off the pitch so we could win the game, then getting proper treatment, the whole team wish a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing on the pitch in the near future, maybe with a scrum cap next time, we must thank the Wycombe second team physio who came over to ensure Charlie was looked after. Also a special mention Brian Feaver who with the spirit that is only seen in Rugby, came on for the Wycombe in the last 10 minutes, as injuries saw them depleted to 14 players, well done Brian.

Despite the obvious talents on show in back line today, for me man of the match was the Chiltern Flanker - Harry Orgee who seemed to be every breakdown, disrupting Wycombe ball, made a number of great tackles, showed some deft handling skills and even took over as jumper when Charlie left the pitch to secure much overdue lineout possession.

So to next week, we look forward to the visit of Bletchley to Ash Grove, all players need to ensure their availability as we also we have four matches on 26th. Let's keep our unbeaten run going to the end of the season.
