Bicester visited Ash grove today, unbeaten this season, already having achieved promotion, but failed to complete an unbeaten season, due to excellent performance by Chiltern this afternoon.
The side today, had Gary Holmes at loose head, with Long and Lawson completing the front row, Griffiths and Cooke in the second row, and an awesome back row, of Richard Dobby, Darren Smith and silver fox, John Hughes. Brian Winson was at 9, and a warm up injury to Killer, meant a late move from left wing to fly half for Scott Jarrold, Tom Fletcher took Scott's place on the wing and the rest of the back line resembled one of Chiltern best teams, with Gez Rowland, Chris Luker and the Richardson bothers, Brain and David. The subs bench had some power as well, Charlie Rennie, Ryan Lee, Rich Bobbett, and Andy Heiron.
A competitive first half saw Chiltern dominate possession, creating a 10 - 0 lead, with an opening penalty converted by Dave Richardson, and sublime move by the backs, was finished by Chris Luker going under the posts, and a conversion by Dave Richardson.
The second half started in same way, with lots of Chiltern possession, and Bicester testing the referees patience, giving more penalty opportunities to Dave Richardson, pushing the score out to 16 - 0. Eventually Bicester showed that some of the form that has given them promotion this season, snatching a loose ball, and running in a try, 16 - 5. A second try from Bicester gave them some late hope as the game entered the last 10 minutes with the score at 16 - 10, however a penetrating move by the Chiltern forwards and quick ball passed across the backs to the right wing Brian Richardson, effectively finished the game off at 21 - 10, despite a late charge by Bicester after the referee had called last play meant the final score was 21 - 17.
A well fought game, by probably the best two teams in the BBO second division, finished in good spirits with Bicester enjoying their promotion, and Chiltern celebrating a well deserved victory. Chiltern llls have one more match this season, away at local rivals Aylesbury next saturday.
So finally today's man of the match, was awarded to Rob Long, not just another good day on the pitch, but also in recognition of his efforts for the second half of the season, as Captain, his relentless emails and texts making sure the best 15 players get out on the pitch every week, well done Rob!!
