Colts secure away win against Windsor

Windsor 14: Amersham & Chiltern 26

Amersham & Chiltern , currently 9th in the Oxfordshire, Bucks. and Berkshire Colts League faced a daunting away match to Windsor , currently 5th in the League and looking for a top 4 play off position. The ranks of Amersham & Chiltern were depleted as many players were either injured or unavailable such that the matched started with 12 a side whilst Windsor could draw on a 25 plus squad. The toss went against the away team and Amersham & Chiltern kicked off in to a strong wind. Despite this the lads rose to the challenge and Windsor conceded an early penalty on the 22 metres line in front of the posts. Whilst Windsor expected a shot at the posts a quickly taken tapped penalty saw Tom Cottrell catch them by surprise and he barged over for a try converted by Josh Davies. Windsor backs were very pacey and they quickly replied with a converted try.

Whilst this may have knocked back our early resolve and success, it had the opposite effect with Amersham & Chiltern driving hard at Windsor and winning two penalties which Josh Davies converted in to the stiff breeze.

This laid the foundation for the next try when quick thinking Josh Davies, decided to tap and run a third penalty , in a similar position, which caught Windsor out and Josh crashed through for a try but could not convert. Windsor were rattled and conceded a third try from a kick and chase by Ed Jones, our number 8 and acting captain , again converted by Josh Davies. 25- 7 lead at half time and the instruction was clear to use the wind and stay camped in Windsor's third of the pitch which Josh Davies did repeatedly. Pressure was added by Chris Morrison and Ed Jones securing control of the lineouts.

As the matched progressed , Windsor became frustrated at the lack of possession and incurred several penalties for regular infringements and dissent. They came back with a converted try but they ended the match prematurely , upset with the penalty count. However, this should not distract from an excellent performance by Amersham & Chiltern who played the conditions intelligently and rose to the challenge. This result lifts us off the bottom to 8th place"

Next match is at Home next Sunday against Henley.
